Monarch Monterrey Migration

This painting was done from a reference photo I took in Monterrey, California, when the Monarch migration was in progress.  The trees were actually a rusty brown color from total coveage of these beautiful butterflies.  It is a complete mystery to me how the flight happens.  None of the butterflies have made it before.  And, they actually land on the very same trees in their migration.
